BennieOEnded up playing 3-9 to their crib. Was not wanting to see them drop a 2 to their crib if I picked 3-3.

Pone is way behind and drawing to an inside straight is a losing proposition.

He can have the 3's.

Rule of 8 points. I would have tossed 3-3 if the other cards added to 8+. Hedged tossing the 9-J and somehow nailed the cut.
PBatterson says: nice cut, Greg
Gougie00 says: Abra cadabra. It takes years and years of practice to find the card you want in the deck.

If I needed a three point win I might entertain throwing the threes. But I will do a three point loss. I have my odds on lead probably do the three of clubs and see if I can bury the five in later pegging round. More about defense here then being fortunate. dec

Going to keep the 7 points here and see if I can get a cut to extend the lead
Inushtuk1 says: Good morning Rob. After seeing the cut; what is your lead? It's another awkward hand to lead with in my opinion. Almost as bad as 3-4-5-6.

Game’s early and nice lead, seems like a time to take the risk. Keep 7 points and toss 3s

Overthought this one this morning, didn't even see the obvious 7. Still, for the position, this hold is sound at this juncture, but I prefer to push up the board quite a bit more at this juncture, today I got bailed out with a great cut.

Nothing overly special, gotta have a little courage Hand 1, but in this group I think we all know that.

I guess I'll be different today. I don't mind island life 🏝️

I'm keeping the three card eleven. I rarely toss a pair of 3s. Playing a little defense here since I'm already in good position. Why not keep the J?
scottcrib says: Yay, the 1% club!
Inushtuk1 says: Hi Scott. If still using the three card eleven, what is your lead please?
scottcrib says: Lead the 3 here.

K-9 in hand 7 could've been K-2 maybe? I'm satisfied with my other decisions.

While not really time for defense I can see tossing the 3s and risking him getting a big crib.

If I had found a 'top ten' discard, I would have gone that way. I suppose the (3-9) is the best; but I'm not willing to start with three less points at this score. And (9-J), or (9-10) don't seem very safe to me. So I'm forced to toss the pair of key connectors; but I'm not happy about it. The 4 cut is of no help to me, and very worrisome to Dealer's
Crib. Switching to Defense now. Lead the 9. The 10 or J lead if (15-2)'d, leaves me with a very tough decision. Do I pair the 5 and give him a chance to trip me? If s/he doesn't; but has a small card run, I have the same problem. Look at my remaining cards after he plays the 5 for (15-2) and I pair it. I have to say GO. If I lead the 10 I'm breaking up my run. If I lead the J; well Dealer may have kept his J.
Jazzselke says: Ras advocated leading the the Jack because it's often thrown in the crib
Jazzselke says: And can't get trapped later.
Inushtuk1 says: Hi Dan. I got my info from Ras's video classes in the section on Big Turkey Plays using Colvert's example of 5-9-10-J as Pone. The J could be a good offensive lead though, as well as the 5. We score on (999,101010,JJJ).
Inushtuk1 says: We score on 6 of the possible 14 X Card responses to our 5 lead. That's 45%.
Inushtuk1 says: Plus the 5 could draw the 9 as well.

It's early, and have enough cushion to worry less about the 3's.

Some days carry a different feel than others, and so I played differently from my original 3-9 defense. I look at this keep liking the double run possible (which we get from 4) and the 7 cut for two 15s. 9-J doesn’t carry that much strength to their crib. Having 3-3-5 makes the easy 3-card 11 for a relaxed play sequence from the 3 lead.

At 20-8* playing a Defense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_______________Dlr's
Defense___Hand_Pegs____Crib___Total______W7 %____W8 %
5-9-10-J___9.74+(-2.74)+(-6.41)= 0.59____15.1____45.6
3S-5-10-J__6.83+(-2.78)+(-4.36)=(-0.31)___11.1____40.5

Defense_________L7 %____L8 %
5-9-10-J_________6.4_____18.6
3S-5-10-J________5.4_____17.6

5-9-10-J is better for expected averages by 0.90pt. and is very much better for Win %s and although it is slightly worse for Loss %s I'll select the 3-3 to discard.

After the 4 cut I'll lead the 10 and play Defense:

Lead___________Dealer's Pegging Points
10_____________________(-2.25)
J______________________(-2.34)
9______________________(-2.62)
5______________________(-2.99)
