Djgoat | How to start? Break things up or risk keeping 8 points? Something else? I tossed Q, 5 and he got 4 in the crib. The 9 cut helped my hand greatly! |

Absolutely 0 thought to breaking this up for me. If they run into something huge, such is life.
Daily Scrimmage should excite some folks today. 121 to 78 WIN Hand 5 was the only marginally interesting discard. I saw it at 61-55* but ultimately played safe today. Wordle 1,550 4/6* ⬛⬛⬛⬛🟨 🟨⬛⬛⬛🟨 🟨🟨🟨⬛🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 |

I'll hold the 8 points as it is the beginning of the game and toss the 5Q. |

Q9 from me. I considered discarding 9d so that I could fake holding a flush, but went for the conventional 9s-Q in the end.

I'm not a fan of the word I chose in position three either. fentesk says: I didn't recall what the Wordle was when I read your post, but going back I can see what you mean. For me it was just a standard sports-related term so it didn't set off bells in my head. Rackrunner says: Same here....although politics don't come to my mind very often and I like it that way ! I went straight to sports as well. Got it in 3 today ! ILostMyJob says: Final stretch of the baseball season and the Yankees are in the mix. Their best pitcher is a lefty. Inushtuk1 says: Hi James. Hope all is well. Just curious why you tossed 6-J in Hand 1. Inushtuk1 says: Ha1. The laugh's on me; missing the flush. =) |

Since it’s the first hand, breaking up the run gives away too many points, making Q5 worth the risk |

Like being aggressive on the first hand as non-dealer, but not going to sell the farm today. I love the 9-Q balking discard and the cards that will help the double run will help this hand, albeit not as much. |

You can't win a game on the first deal, but you can set yourself up to lose. Why push your opponent up the board when they are plus 8 before the game even starts? |

If you follow Colvert’s advice ( or others who say if you can hold a starting 8 do it ) the 5-Q is your choice. Decided not to send a discard that averages 7 across the board to hold eight that benefits from only 5/13 cuts….although three of them get you 15/16 points . Start with five ..10/13 cuts help …8-9-10 helps my keep as well as the 8-9-9-10 |

Play like Al Miller. Plunk down that (5-Q) *immediately*, like it was the (9-Q). Lead the 9s. Eolus619 says: Mike..thx for your post about Rob’s keep/ discard yesterday…Aces were a popular choice with Facebook commenters |

9-Q is a good enough balk that I’ll take the small hit on points to my hand. A 2 point difference in hand score plus not giving over a nice crib was worth it for the first hand.

Had to play it the same way. That crib could be painful.

Where am I going wrong? I see tow four card runs for 8 points. Then the pair of 9s for 2 more points which should be at least 10 points,in the hand. tevdodd says: You are correct, with the cut card. Pre-cut we hold 8 with 2 3 card runs, which is what most refer to. |

Tough call. This hold is aggressive but not unreasonably so. |

Toss the T5 and keep 8 or toss the Q9 and keep 5. The T5 toss is 2 to the crib while the Q9 is one of the saltiest salts.
I'll toss the Q9 all day. I lose one net guaranteed point before the cut (8-2 vs. 5) for a crib which is worse for dealer and a hand that has a lot more cuts for help. I am surprised that I am on the minority on this one here with folks with a lot more competitive experience than me. |

At 0-0* playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
________________Our Offense____Hand_Pegs_Crib____Total___W9 %____W10 % 5-8-9D-10___7.61+1.33+(-3.84)=5.10____25.7____25.6 5-9-9-10____6.78+1.43+(-4.10)=4.11____23.8____23.7 8-9-9-10___10.35+1.26+(-7.53)=4.08____31.4____23.5 Offense_______L9 %____L10 % 5-8-9D-10______35.8____48.7 5-9-9-10_______35.9____50.0 8-9-9-10_______45.4____52.9 5-8-9D-10 is best for expected averages by 0.99pt. and although 8-9-9-10 is considerably best for Win %s it is very much highest for Loss %s owing to the 5-Q throw. So I'll select the 9S-Q to discard. After the J cut I'll lead the 5 and play Offense: Lead_____________Our Pegging Points 5_______________________1.86 8_______________________1.70 9_______________________1.45 10______________________1.26 |

Its the fitst hand of the game so I took the risk and toss the Q-5 there is enough time to cut the opponent gap if he will get lucky and get mosterous crib |
