Is this Flush week? Let's start with 6 points.

Keeping 4 points with lots of cuts getting us to 8- the 99 in the crib is a nice insurance policy-we should be able to evade any major pegging snafus with this hold

We'll toss 99 and see what happens. I need to get close enough to go out next deal.

I've only got one five now that the A-4 combo has been split. Is this a mistake?

Options. I went for the most popular but not necessarily the best.

3 holds start with 6 so we're evaluating A4 vs 49 vs 4J. All 3 have valid arguments for the intent to play defense here, and I see the crib differences as negligible.

Not elated about using a nine even in a defensive strat on the pegging ( flush ) I will go with a little bit of this and that on the discard. dec

3 ways to hold a combined 6. Don't like the flush, which involves throwing a poisonous A9 to the crib. No bargain throwing 4J either, so 99 it is. 2,7 and 8 are bad cuts for the hand, but 7 and 8 might boost the crib.
Jazzselke says: A4 throw also a combined 6, but 599J more vulnerable for pegging.
SallyAnn3 says: Poisonous? lol. I guess I have to start thinking like that now. I'll start at your tourney lol. See you in 3 days!

I like the touching 4-5 and the gap 9-J flush. Lots of cuts for improvement. And the flush should have enough disparity for pegging flexibility. Lone ace stowed safely in my crib.

Seems to be a tossup between pitching the pair and keeping the flush. Not clear to me which is better for defensive pegging.

Giving up 2 pts in hand, but guaranteeing 2 pts in crib. Also seems to leave better hand for pegging.

We need Eighteen Points to WIN, but Pone has First Hand Show and needs just Fourteen Points to defeat us. Pone average tally is Ten Holes, so we want to make sure that the pegging doesn't get too wild; it's probably okay if Pone pegs One or Two Holes (average), but any more than this may vastly increase the risk of giving away the game! 😍

We can either retain the FLUSH and Toss (As 9s), or we can Toss (4 J), or we could 'prime' our Crib with Toss (9 9). I tend to like these in increasing order as listed. ✨

We often say that a FLUSH is "tough to read" by our Opponent, because by definition, a FLUSH does not have any inherent "order" of card ranks, and is defined only by containing same-suited cards. But this "lack of order" is not a prerequisite, as any FLUSH can contain a Run, or might have Touching or Gapped Cards. Therefore, a FLUSH might or might not be good for the pegging. Since (4h 5h 9h Jh) contains two Duos of closely-spaced cards, with the 4-5 Touching Cards and the 9-J Gapped Cards, and these can be dangerous during the pegging. πŸ‘½

I usually avoid stowing a PAIR into my Own Crib, UNLESS NO OTHER DISCARD SEEMS TO BE AN IMPROVEMENT. Because of the Defensive Pegging concerns however, I can find nothing better than (A 4 5 J), so it's time to send the PAIR into the Kitty. This Hand should allow us to peg very cautiously, so it "fits" the nature of our position on the board. πŸ±β€πŸ‘€

Let's Toss (9 9) today, and maybe Pone will oblige and Toss (6 K) or (9 Q), giving us a "set" in the Crib. (I borrow the term "set" from Poker, which is used in that game to mean "Three-of-a-Kind" formed with a "hidden" or pocket PAIR; but in Cribbage, I more loosely mean in to refer to Six Points in the form of 6-9-9 or 9-9-9, etc.) πŸ”±

After the Deuce of Hearts Cut, we now have Five Points in our Hand, so unless we get a Dozen-Point Crib, this game will probably go on to yet another deal, where we shall be Pone with First Hand Show.

What Fetch said. I am not a fan of the A/5/9 combo, nor 9's to my crib.
