Probably almost anywhere on the board I would Keep (A 2 3 4) and Toss (5 5)! 🌿 🍁 🌡

July 6th is National Fried Chicken Day! πŸ—

Eight-Three Years Ago on THIS DAY:

On July 6th, 1942, Anne Frank and her family went into hiding in the "Secret Annex" at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam to avoid the Nazi regime; her diary detailing her experiences became a well-known story worldwide. πŸšͺ

The Frank family, along with the Van Pels family and later Fritz Pfeffer, lived in the Secret Annex for two years, from July 1942 to August 1944. The people in hiding were eventually discovered and arrested on August 4, 1944. πŸŽ—

fentesk says: Whew, I got it two, but that may have been the longest I've ever spent continuously on a Wordle puzzle.
JQT says: Yes, I paused to think after guess one for nearly twenty-five minutes! ⏳
JQT says: Synopsis: Toss (5 5) as a Dealer Discard is the strongest discard in all of Cribbage, and it has a Crib Value of nearly Nine Points! That is not a hypothetical figure: an "average" means that mathematically, if you examine all of those instances over a lifetime that you place Toss (5 5) into your Own Crib, and add up all the points you obtain from it, and then divide that amount by the number of instances, you WILL (guaranteed) get a figure (within a decimal place) of around 8.8 Points (Schell), just the same as a coin-flip of Heads will ALWAYS trend toward occurring 50% of the time. Our Hand only gets help from One Card in Cribbage (the Cut Card), while our Crib gets help from THREE CARDS: (the Cut Card, as well as Pone's two discards). And (A 2 3 4) will peg as well or better Offensively than (3 4 5 5)! Therefore, the odds that the 5 Cards will only add Two Points to our Hand (3 4 5 5), which involves Eight Cuts (8888, 9999) and 8/46 equals 0.174 or about 17%; but with three times as many cards helping our Crib, Toss (5 5) promises to add more than just Two Points from those 5 Cards almost every time. In fact, it's hard to come up with three cards that do not help boost Toss (5 5)! πŸ§€ 🍷 🌿
JQT says: My first two Wordle Guesses were: STARE, ATTAR. Note: ATTAR has not yet been used, but I only looked this up after solving the puzzle: https://www.fiveforks.com/wordle/
Rosemarie44 says: Check submission's list please. Looks like today's hand is showing up again for 7/7/25. thanks
JQT says: I removed the duplicates that were set to appear in early August. Tomorrow, I see that one of my own puzzles shall appear, and it's brand new!
JQT says: My 7/7/25 puzzle does have 3-4-5-5 in it, so it "resembles" today's puzzle, but the other cards and the position are unique. Keep looking for any duplicates; it should be good through early August now. 🍨
Rosemarie44 says: Sorry. my mistake. I do submissions ahead of time and worked this puzzle up earlier today.

No issue if someone wants to toss the 5s, but there's only 1 rank that keeps us under 10 with this hold, so worst case scenario is 115 with 1st count for 12/13 rank cuts. (And still 113 if the 9 does turn)

7 is the most interesting discard today, and one that you do not make if you need the skunk.

Close decision based on hand plus crib melds only. I see Brown ranks 5-5 slightly better than A-2, but I suspect this keep is the better pegger ... and my choice.

Ras used to say "the crib is an extension of the hand". Although this toss doesn't leave a possible improvement of 12 points. Contradiction presents my decision. I chose the pegging cards in the end.
Rosemarie44 says: Could a decision be based on how good you are at pegging when choosing what to hold???????
SallyAnn3 says: If your name is Rob, Fetch, or either Dan lol. Rob plays what I call "chess cribbage" as he can look forward 4 moves with if/then choices.

Like the powerful 5-5 in the crib here. A-2 with a 3 already in our hand seems destined for a 19 or 2 crib. A-2-3-4 helped by all cuts and can be an offensive pegging hand.

I like the idea of seeding the crib here but we didn't get the cut

I was tempted to try 2-3 out of curiosity, but 5-5 seems best.

Although 55 to crib was enticing, I decided on keeping known points, rather than delving into the unknown.

Thx for the puzzle Mike. These six cards involve Ras’s ( I miss him❗️) Big Hand Rule which he states applies 95% of the time . So 5-5 can be tossed by dealer if the remaining keep can cut to at least 12 points. The A234 run starts with four ( maxs @ 10) and depends on a big crib and pegging ..those outcomes are uncertain. The double run starts with a sure eight & 12/13 cuts add value to hand. A/2 averages three in dealer crib. With n/der @ 90 , I need to get as far above 111 as I can end of this hand & the 8 cut gets me positioned from at least 114. In one summary sentence, I am not willing to give up a sure eight in my hand for a sure four in my hand and a chance of a boom from 5-5 in my crib.

Keeping what gives me the most points toward those final 17 when I have 3 hands to do it in. Bruce's last sentence is exactly what I was thinking. Plus the A/2 still can turn into something in the crib.

Why get fancy? Those 2 fives may only be worth 2 points with the right pone toss.

3, 4, 5, 5 has a potential of 20 points, but I just can't resist tossing the 5s into my crib - "disposable fives" as my crib friend calls them.

At 104*-90 playing a Defense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_________________Pone's
Defense___Hand___Pegs____Crib_Total____Win %___Loss %
A-2-3-4______8.13+(-2.20)+8.77=14.70____79.6____0.0
3-4-5-5_____12.33+(-2.26)+3.65=13.72____66.5____0.0
A-4-5-5______8.65+(-2.00)+6.46=13.11____58.0____0.0

4 is best for expected averages by 0.98pt. and is best for Win %s. So, I'll select the 5-5 to discard.

After the 8 cut I'll play Offense to the lead.
Jazzselke says: Posted this too late yesterday. 2345, leading the 3, what if its paired? Seems like a 2 lead IMHO.
