3-Q vs. 7-Q? Looking for a 5 or an 8.

I might learn something today. Not liking anything on the menu this morning. I kept the smaller cards hoping for some help. Lead the 6 and induce some pegging.

Happy Independence Day.

Straight trash to start the game, with a max hold of 2 and max of 7 cuts to 8 pts regardless of the hold.

The real question here is that when presented with trash hand 1, do you change your strategy? Or still go full steam ahead? Holding 2 with limited cut improvement, I'm opting for a more defensive hold this morning (Which now looks like a trash thought process following the 2 cut)

I'll lead the 7, take the run if offered, otherwise will play off.

6. 6-8 96-60*
7. 3-4
8. 2-6 115-93*

I won't defend what I did with 6, but I've submitted worse DCH hands. I suspect the numbers might actually favor 6-9.

I’m just trying to limit damage here-I want the 3 to lead and the 9 to back it up if paired-if that scenario plays out our 6 can often provide us with a 31 when the dealer makes the count 25- obviously we are looking for any 3,6 or 9 cut here but our main focus is to keep the opponent down in the muck with us until we can get better cards moving forward in the game

The only way to keep our Big, Beautiful J-Q Duo together seems to be via (6 9 J Q), and yet I am not too wildly excited about the idea of Toss (3 7) in the Enemy Crib. That leaves us with only Two Tax Free Discard Choices of either Toss (3 Q) or Toss (7 Q). πŸ€”

While both (3 6 9 J) and (6 7 9 J) have a 'path' to become Eight-Point Citizens, the former does so via only Three Cuts (666), while the latter can accomplish this fancy 🌸🌸 🦢 🦢 🌸🌸 feat (accomplir fait un exploit fantaisiste) after a whopping Five Cuts (5d, 8888). βœ‚ πŸ–πŸΌ πŸ’Ž

And an 8 of Diamonds will earn us a Webelos πŸ… Merit πŸ… Badge and/or Nine Points! Five Cuts is two more than Three Cuts (I did that IN MY HEAD without a calculator), and it translates to 5/46 which equals 0.109 (with a calculator) or about an 11% proposition, and it's the best offer we've got! πŸ’Ό

Let's Toss (3 Q) today, and have Five Chances to reach those delightful, delicious Eight or Nine Points. After the Deuce of Clubs Cut, either Hand Choice gets catapulted on up to Four Points today! Whoopee! 😍

Let's lead the 6 Card from this motley assortment of unlikely bedfellows, because if the Dealer is gonna peg off of our Lead Card, then Gosh-Darn-It, we're gonna fight back! πŸ₯Š

3 different cut cards provide a 3 or 4 card run, and we avoid throwing either a 7 or a J to the opponent. Close call vs. Rob's hold and pegging scenario.

When in doubt( which I frequently am) lean on Rob and Ras for guidance. 1) don’t over think this 2) don’t play for a favorable cut 3) Discard from Ras’s approved balking list. So, 3-Q & 7-Q are on it ,but 7-Q is a lower average discard & this leaves a trey to lead.

Eolus619 says: If you are new to the game..at a bare minimum you should know that a K discarded with 12 ranks ( except another K) average under five ..and with a Q ..discarded with 11 ranks ( expect a J & Q ) average under five.

This hand is from one of the annotatated games in Schell's Cribbage Forum. Lead the 9, as Hal did. This leaves the 6-7 intact to trap a 5, should Dealer be holding 5-5-X-X. As it happened in that aforementioned game; Hal was able to trap a mid card for 5 pegs.
Inushtuk1 says: Quote from Schell; "Whenever you have 6-7-X and the fourth card is a 7,8 or 9, it's usually right to lead the fourth card, hoping to catch dealer with 5-5-X-X." Thus: 9(9)-X(19)-J(29-1)-X(10)6(16)-5(21)-7(28-4). Shows the importance of Dealer dumping a 5 early here.
Eolus619 says: Mike….Nice β€œnugget” on the dealer dumping a five early
Inushtuk1 says: Thanks Bruce. Hope you are doing fine.

Not much we can do here but I like keeping 3, 6, & 9 together and J could have brought another point but didn't

At 0-0* playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:

_______________Our
Offense___Hand_Pegs_Crib____Total___W9 %____W10 %
6-7-9-J____4.41+1.52+(-4.68)=1.25____19.3____19.0
3-6-9-J____3.89+1.30+(-4.24)=0.95____18.7____16.8

Offense______L9 %____L10 %
6-7-9-J_______37.9____54.3
3-6-9-J_______41.1____57.3

6-7-9-J is better for expected averages by 0.30pt. and is appreciably better for Win %s and lower for Loss %s. So, I'll select the 3-Q to discard.

After the 2 cut I'll lead the 7 and play Offense:

Lead_____________Our Pegging Points
7_______________________1.64
9_______________________1.46
J_______________________1.45
6_______________________1.34

In July, we'll achieve a ratio of 50% Dealer-Based Puzzles, probably for the first time ever at Hand of the Day, in nearly eighteen years. We did it, folks! 🍧

And of course, as we slither and slide on into the scorcher 🌞 that is August, I see that we already have several Pone-Based Puzzles in a row! Yawn. Old Habits. I guess it's the more immediate contention that occurs in Cribbage with First Hand Show that makes Pone-Based Puzzles seem more exciting and more compelling. Anywho, we're locked and loaded through Early August. πŸ”«

A puzzle that was posted for Early August has been duplicated to appear three times, but with the same random Cut Card! This anomaly has occurred with a few other puzzles recently, and I believe it's occurring on dates where a puzzle or puzzles have been removed. I'll leave those duplicates there for a while so the cause can be investigated. πŸ•΅πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

I wondered if the "Suggest A Hand" process could compare any new puzzle being added into the queue against the entire database of all puzzles that have ever been posted, and say "This hand was already posted on DATE." But since these duplicates have the SAME random Cut Card, it looks like there's a BUG somewhere in the puzzle entry process! (Matt, if you're listening, is this a BUG, and/or is "Warn Duplicates" an easy "feature" to add??) 🐞
