Six points in hand and a seemingly safe discard. |

I didn't even notice 26! I got tunnel-vision speculating on the relative risk/benefit of 24 vs 69 at 0-0* and all the problems inherent therein. But 26 is definitely right. horus93 says: Toss 69 does leave the best hand for pegging and count but it's not sufficiently better than 2499 (or 2699) to be worth giving away two points to dealer. scottcrib says: You made my point for me this morning. Tunnel vision indeed. Thanks for your comments as always. |

Thought about 69 but cannot justified giving up 2 to hold 6. Sometimes you have to play it safe. In this case, lead a 9. |

To me this is my choice. Defense and discard. If we were dealer there would be probably three options. I will look later on the lead card best option. dec |

It's a New Game, and we are Pone.
It's tempting to Keep (2 2 4 9) and Toss (6 9), a relatively benign discard, but why send over points when we don't have to do so? Let's Toss (2 6) instead, unsuited of course. After the King Cut, let's lead a 9 Card from our PAIR. Wordle 641 4/6 (I'll not easily recover from this) π¨β¬β¬π¨π¨ π©π¨β¬π¨β¬ π©β¬π¨β¬π© π©π©π©π©π© Eolus619 says: Tough wordle today imo |

Unsuited 2-6 makes the most sense to me. |

Choosing offense strategy to include the pegging, considered only discards of 2-6 (4.792) and 2-4 (5.207). Retaining 2-4-9-9 has the edge in all categories: (1) has greater potential hand score; (2) scores more potential pegs; and (3) provides the smaller crib. No 6-9 discard for me. Ras2829 says: BTW 6-9 averages 6.204 on that side of the board and scores 8 or more points 25.48% of the time. Certainly 6-9 does not do so well on your side of the board. Frequent dealer discards include &-8, 6-7, 6-9, 10-J, and 6-8. All of those make the 6-9 a potent discard and if the starter card adds to that mix, watch for12-20 points. On your side of the board, you'll have to wait a long time for opponent to turn those cards loose. All 91 discards score more on the other side of the board and the differences are startling. For example when discarding to opponent, only two discards averages less than 4.0; when discarding to own side of the board 43 of 91 scores less than 4.0. Critical to success in this game is effective discarding and an understanding of this principle is paramount. Ras2829 says: Sorry "&8" should read "7-8"! Ras2829 says: Choosing offense, lead the 9 and take any pegs offered. |

Oops. I meant to toss 2-6 and keep 2-4-9-9. The toss of (6-9) over the board is not a fairly benign toss. I get burned on it quite often. Lead the 9d holding the 2d. |

I don't see a good alternative to 2-4-9-9 so I'll throw the unsuited 2-6. |

At 0-0* playing an Offense strategy for the pegging the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
____________________Our Offense___Hand_Pegs_Crib____Total___W9 %____W10 % 2H-4-9-9___7.43+1.09+(-4.47)=4.05____23.0____22.9 2-6-9-9____7.17+1.13+(-4.79)=3.51____22.7____22.0 Offense______L9 %____L10 % 2H-4-9-9______36.4____50.8 2-6-9-9_______37.6____51.9 2H-4-9-9 is better for expected averages by 0.54pt. and is slightly better for Win %s and lower for Loss %s. So I'll select 2D-6 to discard. After the K cut I'll lead a 9 and play Offense: Lead___________Our Pegging Pts. 9____________________1.21 2____________________0.74 4____________________0.62 |
