More about if I discard the nines I might just get wrecked in the pegging. See if I can catch a good card to finish with a decent crib. Defense. dec |

Poor hand. Defense. Better crib 3-4 than a pair of 9's or QK. Dealer right next to us on the board. |

I think I thought this was interesting because it's an exception to "toss the middle cards". Still, this is how I would do it without checking Liam. Cautious offense to the cut. |

I'm willing to learn why "toss the middle cards" isn't optimum with this hand in this position. I just could not find a reason to not throw 9-9. I think after the cut DEF? |

Had there been a flush to consider, I would have went that way. I've been throwing the middle cards from crummy hands like this for many years. I might learn something new and useful today. or Not ..
There is a chance the opponent threw something useful for the 899 in the crib. Better hope so at this point in the game. |

There's no synergy between 9-9 and Q-K, but 3-4 works with so many other cards, (AAAA,2222,333,444,5555,8888), that I'd like it to be in my crib. |

Text book says throw the two 9's. |

Usually it’s keep points, toss potential. But the King wants the middle cards in that crib! |

Most likely on offense the rest of this game. |

I'll follow my maxim of close cards to the box if the deal is rubbish. So 3-4 to the crib. |

At 71*-74 playing an Offense strategy the dynamic expected averages and Win/Loss %s are:
_______________Our Offense___Hand_Pegs_Crib___Total__W3 %___W4 % 9-9-Q-K___3.39+2.37+4.94=10.70____4.2____27.8 3-4-Q-K___2.52+2.63+5.18=10.33____3.7____25.1 3-4-9-9___4.09+2.70+3.38=10.17____3.5____24.9 Offense_____L3 %___L4 % 9-9-Q-K_____8.2____45.7 3-4-Q-K_____8.0____47.8 3-4-9-9_____8.4____48.4 9-9-Q-K is best for expected averages by 0.37pt and is slightly best for Win %s and Loss %s which both take account of the board position at this critical stage. So I'll select 3-4 to discard. After the 8 cut I'll play Offense to the lead. JCM says: What do W3%, W4%, L3% and L4% mean?
Guest says: Percentage of the time it estimates that you'll win the game in three deals from this point (counting the current one as #1), or four deals, or that you'll lose in three or four deals respectively. Guest says: Thanks! Clears up that little mystery.
