Dec and James have the two hands that I have considered. Tossing 7-J is a compromise between a good hand for us and safer discard to dealer. Tossing the two Jacks has the potential for 12 maximum but a riskier discard.

Regardless of what I toss in the crib, the dealer is going to be in position by the end of this hand, so I play my position. Holding 2-2-J-J gives me the best chance to get to my next dealing mark. With a 5 cut I now have 9 points, but I'd still like to get close to hole 75, so I will lead a Jack and hold 2-2 to the end of the pegging sequence.

Cuts of A-2-6-7-8 add value. Throwing 7-7 the A-2-3-5-J add. I like this for the pegging. I’ll lead the seven of clubs hoping to run my twos at the end of the count.

All things being equal, Dealer would toss the mid-card pair, and Pone the face card pair. At + 0 to -14, we’re on offense and must go for it.

I figure unless I cut myself a 6 for 12 points, I’ll be leading my 7c to possibly fake a flush. This hand construct also has the advantage of a three card eleven, and a three card “Sweet Sixteen”.

Usually a pair of X cards is reasonably safe ime, and as inushtuk said this is a basically offensive position. Not today unfortunately but I'd still play on and lead a 7.

At hole 60, I'm playing BOLD. cwed above has it just right. Why? RAS needs to deal from 3rd street CPZ 69-73. The cut of A, 2, 3, 5, or J gives us 8 points or more. The presence of the Jacks adds a potential value of about .5 to this hand. If I toss them to opponent crib, that potential value is lost and adds to the crib. It is for that reason alone that 2-2-J-J has the greater combined value of any of these six cards. If the Jacks had been 10-10, Q-Q, or K-K, 2-2-7-7 would have the distinct edge. Knowing that I have 9 points after the cut will lead a Jack, desiring to peg deuces back to back late in the pegging sequence. If playing defensively would have tossed 7-J, led the 7, advanced the count with the Jack hoping to hit 27 and a "go". Just couldn't bring myself to play two points (starter 9, 10, Q, or K x 4) add nothing). A jewel of a puzzle from pinkcanadiandiamond!
