In most positions this is how I've always discarded. dec
Guest says: Same here. Computer will likely show this as a toss-up but I\'ll continue to tuck 2-3 away in a toss-up nearly every time (excepting times I desperately need pegs).
Rosemarie44 says: My guess is that Guest is Inushtuk?
Guest says: No, just someone too lazy to make a name and log in. But not too lazy to get Matt to adjust this site eons ago (adding positional elements to the problems) and bring Ras to it...

With pone right next to me on the board, going with this hand and 2-3 to my crib.

I've seen some toss A-4 from this, but 2-3 should be the correct toss. I'd like to end up at hole 60 so I'll try to peg.

Against a hand like X-X-X-5 or similar, you can get your A-2-3 in at the end of the count.
Guest says: not a good throw - play both hands keep a-4, throw 2-3

Like 23 in crib and 4 in the hand. 1,2,3,4 gives max of 10.

As I learned just the other day, 2,3 in the crib is worth 2 points no matter what. 2,3 is touching and keeping the A gives a magic 11.

Agree with dec (Dan) and others above. 2-3 is second most powerful toss to own crib with only the 5-5 ahead of it.

I like 2-3 as my second choice, but I believe that throwing J-10 has more cuts for improvement in hand and crib combined. And as Gary points out, it is quite possible to score 3-2-A in the pegging.

Sorry so late getting on. As mentioned over time this hand is held when you can discard J-Q or 10-J. If the X-pointers were Q-K, 10-Q, or 10-K, it's definitely the 2-3 discard. It's a push with the J-K. Because of the pegging potential and the crib value of J-Q or 10-J, combined values will favor the four card run. Am sorry that HalscribCLX has not posted this day as think you could see quite clearly from that analysis what I've tried to point out. Try it - you'll like it!
