There is safety in numbers: I know where the kings and aces are and now where one five is. Toss the 6 and 7. Lead a king but if opponent has a five, games over.
Guest says: Then don't lead a king !

Ace lead only two responses on that one, next hope for a six , seven or eight ten of those. Last hope to use other ace for a go. dec

I'll hold the aces, and lead one of them. Its a crapshoot after the lead. If the dealer responds with a face, I'll play the 7 otherwise I'll play the King. The dealer should win the majority of the time, and I've got to hold something he does expect.

We're in for another 18 inches of snow! Oh no!

Thought about keeping one of each, to cover as many different responses to my Ace lead as possible. Dealer won't respond with a 4 though, akingnd has little chance of holding a King to respond with since I have two of them, so perhaps I would be better off with another Ace rather than a King?

I'll keep both Aces, one for leading and one for eking out a go. I'll keep two more disctinct cards and choose the highest a K and then the next highest a 7. So its A-A-7-K for me. I'll lead the AD.

I'll hold on to both Aces, leading one of them. The other two cards are to push the count up and hopefully sneak my second Ace in for a go.

My gut led me here. Lead the ace obv
horus93 says: My gut's line of thinking being - dealer's hand is completely unpredictable at this score, this is a diverse array of cards that might help me get a go better than a-a-6-7

I want “one of the each”, to be able to pair as many different responses should I survive the opening lead. The Dealer will have a natural bias toward holding a K. I’ll try that as a lead.
Inushtuk1 says: Of course I meant Dealer will have a natural bias *against* holding a K.

With the 10% crowd today; Ace Lead.
JQT says: One Ace is for the Lead Card, the other Ace maybe saves us if the Count reaches Twenty-Six or higher. If Dealer has 6-7-8-9 then after an Ace Lead, Dealer would most likely play a 7 Card in an attempt to limit our winning replies. Anyway, that's the logic behind this method of madness.
Inushtuk1 says: Shades of the November/December “The Inside Track” puzzle from CW.
JQT says: Call me crazy, but I actually like the snow this time of year! Sadly, I gave away my precious pair of ice skates to a younger chap a while back: my last outing involved a fractured ulna, later followed by a blood clot and pulmonary embolism, so I ultimately had to "hang up" the old skates just for my own safety. I also gave up skiing quite a few years back: why risk ripping apart my old ACL and MCL (both severed in a soccer injury) injuries from decades ago? But I still love walking in the snow in my SORELS, and having grown up near Buffalo, I even enjoy driving in it, especially since I acquired a Subaru. Waking up to some fresh-fallen snow and hearing the various woodpeckers and flickers outside my door a rap-tapping is a sure sign of Spring, in spite of the cold temperature!

Like some of you, I think the K might be a useful card, depending on what dealer plays on my A lead. I decided to keep the 6 however. With my A lead, a 7 would score on only 3 replies. A 6 would win on 7 cards: an 8 or the other 6s.

One of each to maximize pair responses. Lead with A since 2 of them already out.

Seems to me that conventional end-game wisdom for lead from a small pair has no application at hole 120. If leading from the Ace, dealer pairs the game is over. I win quite a few games down here by leading a face card, and the King is the safest of those as least likely card that dealer will hold in end-game scenarios. The five on the deck encourages me even more to lead the King. The lead of the King also elicits a mid-card response since a small card response would give me a chance to score the 15-2. getting past the lead and no pegs by dealer on the opener gives me a slight edge. With both players at hole 120, there is no need for me to keep two points as dealer is guaranteed one if I don't peg out first. So it's off. off., off., for me and will grab any two, or take one for a go.

At 120-120* playing an Optimal strategy the chances of our pegging out are:

Optimal_____Our Peg Out %
A-7-K-K________45.6
A-6-K-K________41.6
A-6-7-K________38.0
A-A-K-K________37.2
A-A-6-K________35.2
A-A-7-K________30.8
A-A-6-7________30.4
6-7-K-K________14.0

A-7-K-K has the best chance of our pegging out first so I'll select A-6 to discard.

After the 5 cut I'll lead a K and play Offense:

Lead_________Our Pegging Pts
K_________________0.19

Ras2829 says: Just shows how few of us are up to these end-game challenges. Note that includes RAS, and I might not have enough time to learn what this cribbot gleans in a flash. One percent made the choice of A-7-K-K and believe the presence of the K-K gives us a chance to advance the count high enough that we might pick off that "go" before the dealer does.
Inushtuk1 says: Hi Ras. It’s entirely possible the cribbot’s choice *is* the one percent.

Better to die pegging than to hold for another hand. You are not going to make it.
